Biosphere’s story begins in 1998, when a food company founded its first unit led by a clear vision on the challenges of circular bioeconomy and the potential of industrial biotechnology. The journey began in a small laboratory in Bertinoro, Italy, where a passionate team of biologists and chemists gave birth to this innovative project.
In the early years, the activity of the company focused on internal research and development, driven by a deep-rooted belief in the potential of biotechnology to offer solutions for different industrial applications. Our scientists worked tirelessly to innovate and develop cutting-edge solutions in various domains, including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and environmental science.
Over the years, we expanded our operations, consolidating our role in the Italian biotech sector and defining a business model based on the offer of contract R&D and contract manufacturing services to chemical companies in various domains, including API manufacturing, health and personal care, diagnostics, agro-industry, food & nutraceuticals, animal health and feed, household and industrial cleaning, fibers and polymers, with the aim to innovate and develop cutting-edge solutions for new sustainable industrial processes.
In 2023, we relocated our facilities to a brand new, state-ofthe-art site, increasing production capacity and R&D capabilities to better meet customers’ needs and requests.

The year 2023 marked a turning point in our company’s history with the relocation of our facilities to a brand new, state-of-the-art site. This was a significant milestone for Biosphere, providing us with increased space for laboratories and production facilities. Our new headquarters not only underscores our commitment to innovation but will also allow the company to grow as a result of our unwavering dedication to meeting the evolving needs of our partners and customers.
